The Government of Alberta has issued new Extended Hours and Consecutive Days of Work permits to the ARHCA for 2018. The permits will be effective immediately and expire on October 31, 2018. Please note, this is an earlier expiry date than our previous permits.
When the Government passed Bill 17, the Department of Labour informed us that permits would not be renewed and that only a temporary variance would be granted until our industry would be included in the new regulatory regime.
Our office had been in regular communication with the Department seeking action on the variances so that projects could continue as of Jan. 1, 2018. Late on Friday, we were informed that, in fact, permits would be re-issued to cover the first 10 months of 2018.
The ARHCA will work with the government in 2018 to transition the ARHCA permits into a Minister’s Variance which will allow variation of standards on an industry-wide basis like the current permits we receive. The government has provided assurances the Minister’s Variance will be in place prior to the expiry of the new permits.
