Standard General Inc. Edmonton is looking for a knowledgeable, professional, flexible and dynamic individual with experience in sales and preferably knowledge of civil construction materials. SUMMARY: Based out of Standard General’s St. Albert office, the Material Sales Representative will be responsible for promoting and developing external sales of aggregates and hot mix asphalt products/services within the greater Edmonton area market. Reporting directly to the Estimating Manager, the Materials Sales Representative will be responsible for promoting Standard General’s principles, by developing productive working relationships with existing/new customers through ongoing account maintenance, in-person visits, presentations, cold calling, and use of web based on-line data sources. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Demonstrate commitment to company policies, procedures, guidelines and initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, Ethics, Goal Zero, and Core Values of Safety, Growth, Integrity, Quality and Collaboration • Solicit/secure business opportunities from existing customers through personal visits, phone calls and/or written communications. • Identify prospective new customers through networking, on-line research of industry trends and industry information sources. • Act as a direct point of contact for all external material sales accounts. Evaluate customer needs/goals, and provide suggestions for value added material alternatives, in order to meet or exceed customer expectations, and internal sales objectives. • Maintain customer quotations, order entries, and backlog tracking, assist in collection of accounts receivables, and provide overall customer service. • Coordinate with company production/material distribution operations, to ensure product/service availability according to contract requirements. • Develop a sales action plan, in order to grow existing/new key customer accounts • Assess market conditions, and provide input on material pricing to ensure optimal profitability • Analyze and report weekly/monthly/annual sales results/statistics to the Estimating Manager, and the production/distribution team • Build relationships and create awareness of Standard General products and services • Represent Standard General at selected industry functions and events • Other duties as required
Required Skills: 
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills • Exhibit exceptional work ethic, reliability and attention to detail • Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes • Strong communication skills (Oral & Written) • Must be proficient with the use of computers and various software applications • Knowledge in customer relationship data systems would be an asset • Ability to meet all safety requirements including a valid class 5 driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION • Post-Secondary Education in Construction and or Sales/Marketing or equivalent experience preferred • Minimum of three years of experience is preferred in a construction materials sales position We offer extensive professional growth opportunities, excellent wages with a comprehensive benefit package.
