SCALE OPERATOR – Job Description Functional Summary Reporting to the owner, the scale operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the scale shack area. This position operates the scale software for the purpose of weighing trucks that are hauling aggregate products from our pit KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the scale operator includes, but are not limited to: Day to Day Operation • Operate the weigh scales and scale software and other office equipment in a safe and appropriate manner • Weigh gravel trucks and print tickets • Ensure employees, drivers, sub-contractors and visitors are following pit rules • Collect, organize and review paperwork daily • Maintain a clean and safe work environment • Communicate daily with office staff to ensure adequate information is being relayed between the office, accounting office and pit • Operate the computer and scale components in a professional efficient manner • Scale trucks when required prior to loading for tare purposes • Scale trucks once loaded • Ensure proper information is entered into the scale program on the computer • Prepare daily sign in/out records for all employees, subcontractors, drivers, visitors • Perform daily task in a time managed routine • Ensure all gravel truck drivers sign in upon arrival to the pit • Ensure all new drivers complete the site orientation upon arrival to the pit • Answering phone calls and responding to inquiries Safety • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections • Work with all team members and subcontractors to investigate damage, incidents or near misses on the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried our according to the Company’s Safety Program • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others • Keeps all work areas on the job site clean and free from clutter and garbage Teamwork • Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of the other technical and administrative support, as required • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas • Collaborate with any project team on other special initiatives, as required • Accomplish goals in a team environment • Keeps in constant communication with loader operators and truck drivers on site
